Kenneth Kirby, PT, DPT, CSCS*D
Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine

Kenneth is a native of Kodak TN who received his undergraduate education at Maryville College, graduating cum laude and earning a double Bachelor’s in Biology & Physical Education while minoring in Chemistry.  Along with his academic pursuits, he was a 4-year letter winner in football and helped rejuvenate the college’s club wrestling program, in which he participated.

He completed his medical education at Duke University School of Medicine (including clinical affiliations at WakeMed and Duke Sports Medicine), earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy and obtaining his North Carolina board certification in 2006.  His graduate thesis assessing the importance of glenohumeral peripheral mechanics by practicing physiotherapists was published in Physiotherapy Research International in 2007. 

While at Duke, Kenneth began his active participation in the American Physical Therapy Association.  He served as his class liaison to the APTA student assembly and was active in the student political action committee.  Presently, Kenneth maintains his participation through memberships in both the Sports and Orthopaedic sections of the APTA, participation in the Political Action Committee, as well as his local and state PT chapters.  He is also an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor, receiving this title in 2007.

Kenneth is a member of the National Strength & Condition Association, having received his Strength & Conditioning Specialist Certification in 2005.  He was recently recertified with distinction.  He is also a member of the McKenzie Institute, USA, and is seeking his MDT certification in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy.

Aside from the above, Kenneth provides high school sports coverage along with other members of the Orthopaedic Specialists Sports Medicine team.  His interests include sport specific strength and conditioning, rehabilitation of the overhead throwing athlete and athletic injury prevention.
